If you’ve had a letter from your water company about high usage, a water bill that’s spiked with no explanation, damp patches with no obvious source, or your water meter ticking when nothing is running — that isn’t standard plumbing. It’s a hidden leak, and locating it needs specialist equipment.
No hidden fees, no surprises. Everything agreed with you before any work begins.
All prices exclude VAT at the prevailing rate. Coverage outside our primary area subject to a travel charge — check our coverage tool below.
“Escape of water” is the single most common UK home insurance claim — covering everything from burst pipes to hidden leaks under floors. Your policy is likely to cover both the damage to your home and contents and the cost of locating and stabilising the leak.
The headline plumbing claim. Sudden pipe failure that causes damage to flooring, walls, ceilings or contents.
Almost all UK home insurance policies include escape of water as standard — both buildings and contents sections may engage.
If a leak is causing damp, staining or warping but the source isn’t visible, “trace and access” cover pays for the work to locate it — typically £5,000 to £10,000 per policy.
For long-running hidden leaks, see our Leak Detection division.
Pipes that have burst, split or failed after a freeze. Damage to pipework and the resulting water escape are both typically covered.
Claims often spike in January and February — if you’ve just had a thaw, check loft pipes and outside taps before the next freeze.
Stop the leak, isolate the affected section, make the property safe. Often covered as “emergency repair” even before a claim is fully approved.
Replacement of the failed section of pipework, joints or valves. Quoted separately and submitted to the same claim.
Drying out, replacement flooring, redecoration, contents reinstatement. Usually handled by your insurer’s appointed restoration contractor.
Most policies do cover the cost of emergency stabilisation under “escape of water” or a separate “home emergency” add-on. Cover varies, so we’d still recommend you pay our invoice up front and claim reimbursement — that way the leak is stopped without waiting for a claims handler.
Our invoice is itemised and insurer-ready: emergency response time, hourly labour, parts and materials separated.
It depends on the policy and the cause. Most home insurance covers the resulting damage (flooring, walls, contents) reliably, but cover for replacing the failed section of pipework varies.
Sudden, identifiable failures (frost, accidental damage) are usually covered. Long-term wear and tear is usually excluded. Check your policy wording or ask your insurer.
For an active emergency, you don’t need to wait for approval — insurers expect you to stop the damage as quickly as possible and submit the invoice afterwards. Always keep the receipts.
For permanent repair work, registering the claim first is standard practice. Some insurers may suggest one of their network contractors; you’re generally free to use a plumber of your choice. Our invoices and reports are accepted by every major UK insurer we’ve worked with.
Sudden water damage that causes a ceiling to collapse or affects structural elements is covered under the buildings section of most policies. The plumbing fault that caused it is treated separately from the structural restoration.
This is one of the reasons we always recommend photographing damage before any clean-up — insurers want to see the full extent before any contractor gets involved.
Slow, hidden leaks behind walls or under floors are exactly what “trace and access” cover is designed for. Most insurers accept that long-running hidden leaks aren’t the homeowner’s fault — provided the property was reasonably maintained.
If this sounds like your situation, our Leak Detection division handles these specifically and has its own insurance claim hub with the detection-side documentation insurers ask for.

Quick answers to the things customers ask us most often.
For emergencies (burst pipes, major leaks, no water) we aim to have an engineer at your door within the hour across our primary coverage area. For non-urgent jobs, we usually offer a slot within 24–48 hours, often sooner.
Quotes for installations and larger jobs (bathrooms, kitchens, power flushes) are free. For diagnostic call-outs we charge a small fixed call-out fee, which is then deducted from the cost of any work you choose to go ahead with — never a hidden mark-up.

Either works. For most repairs we bring standard parts on the van and bill them at cost price. For bathroom and kitchen jobs, you’re welcome to choose and supply your own fixtures (taps, basins, showers, etc.) or we can source them through our trade accounts — usually at a better price than retail.
If you’re going down the trade route, we’ll show you the options before ordering.
Card, bank transfer and cash. For domestic jobs, payment is due on completion. For landlord and commercial customers, we offer standard 14- or 30-day invoice terms on request.
Larger projects (bathroom refurbishments, kitchen installations) are split into a deposit, mid-stage and completion payment, all confirmed in writing on the quote.
